Status Update from the Cornell IRB (Feb. 11, 2020)

The message below was sent via email on February 11, 2020, to students, faculty, and staff on the Cornell Ithaca campuses who have active or pending research protocols with the Cornell IRB.

Dear Cornell research colleague,

We are reaching out to those who conduct human participant research because you may have noticed a significant slowing of IRB protocol reviews and other human participant research related tasks.  As you may already know, several key IRB personnel coincidently left their positions at the same time last fall, critically impacting processing speed. We sent an email to researchers with pending protocols in mid-December, and we are now writing with an update.

We are happy to announce that Joyel Moeller, an experienced IRB Administrator, and Mara Braddy have joined the IRB staff, and we are now responding to your requests and protocol submissions much more rapidly.  We hope to be caught up and moving at our normal pace next month.  We recognize the burden this has placed on researchers across campus, and have been doing our very best to process reviews and approvals as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

If you have an urgent request, please contact Mara directly at meb448@cornell.edu and she’ll be sure to route your request to the appropriate team member.

Again, we thank you for your patience during this trying time and we apologize for any delays you have experienced.

All the best,

Your Cornell IRB Team
