UIDP NOTICE: U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) is inviting feedback

The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) is inviting feedback on one of the most critical strategic decisions shaping U.S. science and innovation policy: the future focus areas for the NSF Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (TIP). As a valued UIDP member representative, your insights are vital to ensuring these national priorities reflect the emerging technologies vital to your organization and U.S. global competitiveness.

What’s Happening?

NSF has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to gather input on updating its current list of key technology focus areas, topics Congress mandates NSF to reassess annually. Your perspectives will help ensure the list reflects the most critical, forward-looking technologies driving research, innovation, and industry.

Who Should Respond?

UIDP encourages feedback from U.S.-based individuals and organizations across all sectors: university, industry, nonprofit, and government. Your voice matters whether you represent a research institution or a technology organization.

Why It Matters:

Your input can shape future federal investments, policy directions, and collaborative opportunities across academia and industry. This is more than an administrative update; it is a chance to ensure your research, innovation, and workforce priorities are heard at the national level.

When & How to Respond:

Submit your input by 11:59 p.m. EDT on Monday, July 21, 2025, via: NSF Submission Form on Airtable

Or email: KTA_RFI@nsf.gov

Your responses are voluntary and can focus on areas most relevant to your expertise.

Where to Learn More:

Review the full RFI and current technology focus areas in the Federal Register notice.

UIDP encourages you to use this opportunity to make your voice heard. Please consider sharing this opportunity with colleagues and partners to amplify the impact of the U-I community and ensure our collective experience and insight inform national priorities. Thank you for contributing your voice to this important dialogue.
