Research Safety

Environment, Health and Safety (EHS)

Research Safety, part of Environment, Health and Safety (EHS), is staffed by a team of Biological Safety, Chemical and Laboratory Safety, and Radiation Safety professionals who have the expertise to assist researchers mitigate and manage the risks associated with their research and meet regulatory and compliance requirements.

Research Safety services include:

  • Consultations with researchers to assess risks and recommend appropriate controls
  • Training
  • Laboratory inspections
  • Incident review and follow-up

Institutional Biosafety Committee's primary objective is to safeguard protection of personnel, the general public, and the environment. To meet this goal, the IBC imposes requirements for safe laboratory and biological safety practices; reviews and approves policies, procedures, training, programs and facilities pursuant to the safe use of r/sNA, biohazardous materials, and biotoxins. See the Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules or Biohazardous Materials page for more information.
